Social Media Strategies 101 | Richard Takemura

Where do I start with my Social Media Strategies?

Regardless of whether you work in a small or large corporation, most companies are familiar with using social media strategies as a part of their business plans. Whether most of their customers are on Twitter and the company owner is looking for ways to bring more people in, or he/she is trying to find ways to build brand awareness, these are important social media tactics that you should consider using for your business as well. On the other hand, while it’s true that most corporations know about the importance of using social media for attracting customers, there are ways to improve too. After all, with technology always becoming more advanced, and businesses shifting to social networks on a day-to-day basis, it’s not just important you know how to use social media sites, but that you know how to build on the strategies you’re using. In the business world especially, it’s important that you improve upon what you already know. Overall, here are some ways to up the ante on your social media tactics.

#1. Plan Ahead of Time

One of the most effective tactics for improving upon your social media strategies, is by planning ahead. After all, any good strategy requires a well thought out plan. For example, let’s say you were looking to share a video on Facebook, advertising your brand to a specific group of customers. Instead of simply sharing the video with your audience, hoping that they’ll be interested and reach out, you should plan ahead by studying them first. Afterwards, based on what your customers like and dislike, you can market the video in a way that you know will appeal to them, while still getting the message and product usage across. As another example of how you should plan ahead of time, make a list of social media sites that you want to work with as a means of attracting your customers. If there are social networks you’re not familiar with, but you want to use them regardless, get yourself accustomed to how they are used, while also realizing that every social media site is used differently. All in all, not only is planning ahead one of the most effective strategies you can use for your business, but it also gives you a stronger sense of direction.

#2. Create Goals for Yourself

While planning ahead certainly gives you a sense of direction, creating goals helps you to know what needs to be accomplished. For example, what are your short-term and long-term goals? Where do you see your company in the future, and how many customers are you planning to reach by the end of the year? These are some questions you should be asking yourself. On top of creating these goals, however, it’s also important that you focus on the short-term goals first. Aside from the fact that they can be finished relatively quickly, the long-term goals, on the other hand, require much more thought and strategy. Don’t completely ignore them, but if you know you won’t reach those goals until a few years down the road, keep planning them out while focusing on the easier tasks at hand.

#3. Get Familiar With Others in the Industry

In order to up the ante on your social media strategies, it’s important you get familiar with others in the industry as well. Those who have a lot of experience using social networks to bring in customers may be able to offer you some advice and ways you could improve in your strategies. Of course, that’s not to say you should use the same tactics they’re using. Every business is different, and you want yours to stand out amongst the crowd. However, having connections with others who are in your field, is very important, as they can lead you in the right direction.
